What Tulsa Families Are Saying About The Dance Pointe

Jackie Simms recommends The Dance Pointe

This studio is the best around! The staff is kind and knowledgeable. The owner takes the time to know each student and runs a very professional, respectful studio. My daughter is only 6 and when she joined for the first time last year, she was nervous and had no idea what was going on. In one short year, she has improved in tumbling, ballet, and tap and has gained SO much confidence! She loves her teachers and the supportive atmosphere they provide. I love that the costumes are modest and the choreography is wonderful! We will never join another studio like this one.

Mohamed Saf recommends The Dance Pointe

My daughter has been dancing here for years. They are a great studio. They and their sister company South Tulsa Children's Ballet and Theater give children amazing experiences. They have become family to us. Thank you all

Kim Lee recommends The Dance Pointe

Absolutely love our experience with Dance Pointe! They have the most amazing teachers who are knowledgeable, patient, and kind. I couldn't ask for a better studio for my daughter (who has special needs) to grow and learn in dance and musical theatre!

Jessica Eslam recommends The Dance Pointe

An amazing dance school. My daughter loves her teachers and is begging to do more classes there. 9/20/2018- We have done summer camps, dance, tumbling and my daughter loves everything and everyone here. 9/26/2019- We can not ask for a better place to grow leaps and bounds. My daughter’s confidence and everything has changed so much in such a great way. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Ava Nirk recommends The Dance Pointe

I went to this studio for 6+ years. I miss it very much and I’m very grateful for everything I have learned here. Great place to learn good technique!

Christina Lanier Fravel recommends The Dance Pointe

I have had children involved at the studio for over 15 years. I’ve had a chance to get to know the employees , the owners, and the students through the years. I frequently recommend this studio because it’s a perfect blend of so many things that a successful, well rounded dance student is looking for. It’s a proper ballet studio with an incredible hip hip program and a competitive dance team, with great choreography for the jazz, tap, and other genres. The recitals are tasteful and the studio has fought, and succeeded, to provide safe performances through 2020.

frequently asked questions

What age can my child start ballet at The Dance Pointe?

Children can begin ballet as early as age 2 through our combo classes, which introduce basic ballet movement in a fun, age-appropriate setting. Starting at age 3, dancers move into our Creative Movement and beginner ballet programs, then progress through structured ballet technique levels as they grow.

Do beginners need prior experience to join ballet classes?

Our South Tulsa ballet classes are structured for all levels, including absolute beginners. If your child is new, we place them in age-appropriate, beginner-friendly groups. For experienced dancers, we offer placement assessments to ensure they enter the right level for continued growth.

What should students wear to ballet class?

For ballet, we recommend:

  • Girls: Leotard, tights, ballet slippers, and hair in a bun.

  • Boys: Form-fitting shirt, dance tights or shorts, and ballet slippers. This attire ensures freedom of movement and helps instructors correct posture and alignment. Pointe students may have additional requirements, which we provide upon approval.

Do you offer pointe or demi-pointe classes?

Yes. Students may progress to Demi-Pointe and Pointe once they build the required strength and technique. Teacher approval (typically Ms. Farry) is mandatory for safety. Demi-Pointe shoes help transition students gradually before full Pointe work.

How long does it take to be ready for Pointe shoes?

On average, students need 3–5 years of consistent ballet training before attempting Pointe. Factors include strength, ankle stability, alignment, and discipline. Our instructors continuously assess readiness to ensure safety and prevent injury.

What are the benefits of ballet beyond dance technique?

Ballet improves:

  • Posture and alignment (helpful for all sports/arts).

  • Discipline, focus, and patience (life skills that carry beyond the studio).

  • Confidence and stage presence (students learn to perform comfortably in front of audiences).

  • Flexibility and strength (building a healthy, strong body).

How do I register for ballet classes at The Dance Pointe?

You can register easily online through our Parent Portal or by contacting our front desk. Since ballet classes often fill quickly, we recommend downloading our Starter Kit for current schedules and reserving your child’s spot early.

How often should my child attend ballet classes?

For beginners, attending once or twice per week is a great way to build a foundation and develop a love for ballet. As students advance, especially those preparing for Pointe, we require a minimum of three classes per week to ensure proper strength, technique, and safety. Our instructors will work closely with families to recommend the best schedule based on each dancer’s goals and level.

What is the difference between ballet and other dance programs like jazz or hip hop?

Ballet is the foundation of all dance styles. The posture, flexibility, and discipline learned in ballet directly improve performance in jazz, tap, contemporary, and even hip hop. Many professional dancers continue ballet training throughout their careers.

What happens if my child misses a ballet class?

We understand life can get busy. If your child misses a class, we offer make-up class options so they don’t fall behind. Please notify us in advance so we can arrange the best alternative.

Do you provide private ballet lessons?

Yes. For students who want individualized attention, we offer private ballet coaching. This is especially helpful for advanced students preparing for Pointe, auditions, or competitions. Contact us for availability.

What performance opportunities are available for ballet students?

Our ballet dancers perform in annual recitals and may also participate in seasonal showcases. Advanced students can audition for competition teams or join our sister program, South Tulsa Children’s Ballet and Theater, for stage productions.
